Sr. Bioinformatics Scientist – cfDNA Technology Development

Bioinformatics Senior Scientist – Personalis, Inc.

Personalis, Inc. is a leader in advanced genomics for precision oncology. Their NeXT Personal platform is an ultra-sensitive, tumor-informed, WGS-based liquid biopsy assay designed to detect minimal residual disease (MRD) and cancer recurrence. The platform leverages whole-genome sequencing of a patient's tumor and matched normal samples to create a personalized panel of up to 1,800 somatic variants, enabling the detection of circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) at levels as low as 1–3 PPM.

Work Environment

  • Work Model: Hybrid
  • Onsite Requirements: Monday & Tuesday

Role Summary

As a Bioinformatics Senior Scientist, you will join a team of scientists and engineers to develop, test, and apply cutting-edge cell-free and solid tumor cancer genomics products. You will work alongside clinical evidence generation teams, applying cell-free solutions to large patient cohorts and profiling patient responses to therapy. Your work will directly contribute to the next generation of genomics-based precision-medicine products used by pharma, biotech, and clinicians for therapeutic selection.

Responsibilities

  • Platform Development: Design, develop, and build upon novel cell-free platforms and products, including the NeXT Personal MRD liquid biopsy platform.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work across teams to translate collaborative findings into actively developed, cutting-edge products.
  • Scientific Execution: Design and execute projects focused on product feature feasibility, demonstrating clinical advantages and performance.
  • Data Analysis: Model and analyze large, complex genomics datasets using novel methods to generate biological insights.
  • Dissemination: Publish results and present at scientific conferences regarding cell-free DNA and cancer genomics.

Requirements

  • Education: Ph.D. in bioinformatics, genomics, or a related field.
  • Domain Expertise: Extensive experience with cancer genomics and cancer liquid biopsy analysis.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Extensive experience with somatic mutational detection and filtering.
    • Proficiency in at least one common programming language (e.g., Python, R).
    • Proficiency in applying statistical methods to genomic applications.
  • Professional Track Record: Proven ability to design and implement experimental approaches to confirm and elaborate upon findings from complex projects, as well as experience publishing and presenting scientific results.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Hiring Salary Range: $155,000 – $190,000 per year.
