Role Overview

BillionToOne is seeking a Clinical Genomics Scientist to support the Clinical Genomics team in day-to-day commercial reporting operations, specifically focusing on variant interpretation and report drafting. This is a part-time, remote-based contracting position (10–20 hours/week) requiring a commitment of at least one year.

Rate - $100/hour

Responsibilities

  • Somatic Variant Interpretation: Perform somatic-based variant interpretation by reviewing literature and databases to classify variants and match treatments. Perform verifications using BAM file analysis.
  • Clinical Report Drafting: Draft reports using an in-house reporting API, working in coordination with engineering, QA, and laboratory directors.
  • Content Curation: Contribute to the curation of gene-level content, such as domain and critical residue curation.
  • R&D Collaboration: Work with the R&D team on somatic oncology projects, providing expertise on biological pathways, mechanisms, and variant-level analyses.

Qualifications

  • Education: Ph.D. in Human Genetics, M.S. in Genetic Counseling, or a related field.
  • Experience: 2+ years of experience in somatic variant interpretation based on ACMG/AMP guidelines (or 1+ years of germline and 1+ years of somatic experience).
  • Technical Skills: * Hands-on experience with mutation databases (COSMIC, ClinVar, OncoKB), annotation sources (dbSNP), and genome browsers (UCSC).
    • Familiarity with IGV and BAM file analysis.
    • Willingness to learn basic bioinformatics tools and apply technically-minded insights.
  • Domain Knowledge: Understanding of cancer somatic mutations and signaling pathways (e.g., FDA-approved drugs, clinical trials, and "hot targets").
  • Attributes: Exceptional attention to detail for following SOPs and strong organizational skills for managing reporting projects.
