Bioinformatics Intern, Prenatal – BillionToOne
Role Overview
BillionToOne is seeking a Bioinformatics Intern to join their team in Menlo Park, CA. In this 10-week, full-time on-site internship, you will focus on a research or development project related to prenatal assays, with guidance and mentorship from Senior Scientists and Associates. This role is designed to provide hands-on experience in bioinformatics pipelines and next-generation sequencing data analysis.
Responsibilities
- Project Work: Conduct a research and/or development project focused on one of BillionToOne’s prenatal assays.
- Pipeline Development: Improve next-generation sequencing (NGS) analysis pipelines under the mentorship of the Bioinformatics team.
- Communication: Present findings through presentations, written reports, and code reviews.
- Collaboration: Partner with scientists to support new scientific insights and operational improvements.
Requirements
- Education: Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program in Bioinformatics, Biology, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Bioengineering, Physics, or a related field.
- Technical Skills: Strong programming proficiency in Python and R.
- Aptitude: High mathematical and statistical aptitude.
- Attributes: Strong attention to detail and a clear interest in pursuing a career in bioinformatics.
Nice-To-Haves
- Familiarity with MS Excel, bash, AWS, SQL, and git.
- Prior research experience in bioinformatics, biology, or physical sciences.
- Laboratory experience with molecular biology techniques (DNA purification, PCR, electrophoresis) or NGS library preparation.
